12 Lessons to Learn from the Prayer of the Man After GOD’s Own Heart ♥️ 🙏🏻

David’s Prayer and Thanksgiving to GOD (2 Samuel 7:18-29)

1) Humility

“Who am I Lord that You have brought me this far?…” David sees his smallness and God’s greatness, and he look up to God from a lowly position and not entitlement. The right attitude of our heart to begin our prayer is to humble ourself before His throne.

18 “Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?

2) Trust & Faith in GOD’s Mighty Power

“This was a small thing in Your sight O Lord God…” What a view of God’s mighty power, David knows that God is Omnipotent, He is all powerful, nothing is too difficult or impossible for Him. We can trust and put our faith in God our Waymaker and Miracle Worker Lord Almighty in every situation.

19 And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord God; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. Is this the manner of man, O Lord God?

3) Understand GOD’s Sovereignty

“For You, Lord God, You know Your servant…” David understands that God is Omniscient, He is all knowing, nothing surprises Him, He sees every little detail of our life. No secret is hidden from His watchful eyes. We have the confidence that He is looking out for us everyday, in every moment of our life and all things work together for good to those who love God.

20 Now what more can David say to You? For You, Lord God, know Your servant.

4) Give Glory, Honor & Credit to GOD

“You have done all these great things…”David doesn’t give the credits to himself for his accomplishments, he acknowledges that it is God who has orchestrated everything for his successes that God had blessed him and provided for him. We ought to give God all the glory every time for that is the very purpose He created us.

21 For Your word’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them.

5) Worship and Praise GOD

“You are great, O Lord…” David has the heart of a true worshipper, his understanding of God’s nature produces his overflowing love and awe of his Lord’s majesty. The more we know God the more we love, worship and praise Him.

22 Therefore You are great, O Lord God. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

6) Remember GOD’s Purpose and Plan

“God went to redeem for Himself a people…” David knows that salvation is from the Lord his Savior. He is God the Redeemer of people for Himself and for His name. And this is a wonderful reminder that our salvation too is from God through our faith in Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

23 And who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name—and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land—before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods?

7) Believe in GOD’s Eternal Destiny for His People (Israel & The Church)

“Your people Israel Your very own people forever….” David knows the covenant of God with Israel is forever. Today, God is not done with Israel, they are the apple of His eyes and they are a special people to Him, if they are important to Him, we too should also care and pray for them. Just like Israel, the Church is GOD’s people, Jesus is our Head and we are the Body of Christ, we are His chosen ones to be His Bride and destined to be with Him forever.

24 For You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; and You, Lord, have become their God.

8) Pray for GOD‘s Word and Promise

“Now, O Lord God, the word which You have spoken…” David prays the Word of God that He spoke to him, he believes God’s  promise and recites it back to God. Such an example for us to be strengthened in faith claiming God’s promises in our prayers.

25 “Now, O Lord God, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said.

9) Exalt the Name of the LORD

“So let Your name be magnified forever…” David’s heart overflows with exaltation for the Lord his God. The Father awaits for his people to worship Him and give glory to Him, and that is a priority in David’s prayer, as it should be in our prayers as well.

26 So let Your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is the God over Israel.’ And let the house of Your servant David be established before You.

10) Discernment of GOD’s Will and Revelation

“For You, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant…” David has a very close relationship with God and he acknowledges the special revelation that God has made known to him. We too are being guided by the Holy Spirit what God’s Will is, He said “be still and know” and we will hear that “still small voice” of God.

27 For You, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.

11) Scriptural Praying (Believe in GOD‘s Word)

“And now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true… “ David knows God is truthful and His Words can be trusted. What an example for us to seek and study His Word so that we can learn and use the Holy Scripture in our prayers and intercessions for others.

28 “And now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.

12) Praying and Asking for GOD‘s Blessing

“Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever…” David expressed his dependence to God for the blessing for his house, and for the continued stability and strength of his kingdom forever. God is our only Source for everything and every blessing that we need for our life and our legacy.

29 Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Lord God, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”

All praises, honor & glory be to GOD our Heavenly FATHER, our Lord, Savior & King JESUS CHRIST and our Helper & Comforter the HOLY SPIRIT 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🕊️
